You Don't Need to Make Every Decision Today
One of the easiest traps to fall into during periods of uncertainty is believing that you need to solve everything at once. You need to decide whether to stay or leave. Whether to send the message. Whether to wait. Whether to move on. Whether to change careers. Whether to forgive. Whether to let go. When we're emotionally overwhelmed, every unanswered question feels urgent. The trouble is that life rarely asks us to make every decision today. Our minds do.
When we're anxious, uncertainty feels uncomfortable, and the natural response is to try to remove that discomfort as quickly as possible. We tell ourselves that once we've made every decision, we'll finally feel calm again. But it rarely works like that. Often we simply replace one uncertainty with another.
I've found that one of the greatest sources of emotional overwhelm isn't uncertainty itself. It's believing we have to resolve all of it immediately. Sometimes the kindest thing we can do for ourselves is recognise that we don't need to make every decision today. We only need to decide what deserves our attention right now.
One thing I've noticed, both personally and through providing tarot readings and pendulum guidance, is that people often become stuck because they feel they must choose between two futures immediately. They imagine that delaying a decision means failing to make one at all.
But not deciding is sometimes a decision. Sometimes choosing to wait until you have more information is the wisest choice available. Sometimes allowing yourself a little more time is exactly what creates the clarity you were searching for. Patience isn't always avoidance. Sometimes it's wisdom.
This is one reason I think people struggle to make good decisions when they're under emotional pressure. Clarity rarely arrives under pressure. When we're frightened, heartbroken, exhausted, or overwhelmed, our attention narrows. Everything starts to feel urgent. Every possibility feels permanent. We begin searching desperately for certainty when what we really need is perspective.
Tarot has always been valuable to me because it creates that perspective. Rather than demanding an immediate answer, the cards encourage us to slow down. They reveal emotional patterns, competing influences, hidden fears, and opportunities that are difficult to notice when we're rushing towards a decision. Quite often, people finish a reading not because every question has been answered, but because they no longer feel they have to answer every question immediately.
Pendulum guidance can help in a similar way. Sometimes the difficulty isn't choosing between countless possibilities. It's becoming trapped between two or three and endlessly moving back and forth between them. A little guidance can quiet that internal tug-of-war and help you feel confident enough to take your next step without feeling you have to plan your entire future.
Because that's really all any of us ever do. Small steps still move you forward. Life is rarely changed by one enormous decision. More often it's shaped by hundreds of small ones.
Spellwork reflects this idea beautifully. Many people come looking for spellwork because they feel stuck, as though nothing is moving and life is waiting for someone else to make the next move. While spellwork can never replace practical action, it can transform passive waiting into intentional participation. Rather than trying to force the entire future into place, ritual work allows people to focus their energy and intention on the next meaningful step.
One thing I've learned is that the best decisions don't always announce themselves immediately. The right answer doesn't always arrive first. Sometimes understanding comes gradually. Sometimes confidence grows quietly. Sometimes the answer that feels obvious after a month would have been impossible to see today.
That's why I think trusting ourselves is something we build rather than something we suddenly possess. Trust grows one decision at a time. Each thoughtful choice teaches us something. Each experience strengthens our judgement. Each moment we navigate uncertainty reminds us that we are more capable than we often believe.
We don't become confident because life becomes certain. We become confident because we've learned we can cope with uncertainty. At the end of the day, I don't think life is asking us to have every answer. It's simply asking us to take the next step with honesty, intention, and compassion towards ourselves. Because you don't need to make every decision today.
